This website has been open since August 15, 2003 and is my tribute to the American Sitcom Mama's Family; which, was produced by Joe Hamilton for the NBC Network from 1983 to 1985 and later the CBS Television Network from 1986 to 1990. Mama's Family is currently distributed by Warner Brother's since 1989. Long-time visitors have seen the site undergo many changes and updates, and in that time has aquired over 141,500 visitors since its launch. We are currently the only online resource for Mama's Family on the internet.

The last update was on December 22, 2008.

MAMA'S FAMILY spun off of The Carol Burnett Show featured skit called "The Family," which co-star Vicki Lawrence (Thelma Harper) based her show Mama's Family off of. Mama's Family debuted on January 22nd, 1983; featuring a Southern Blue Collar Family from Raytown, Missouri. Mama Thelma Harper is a sharp-tongued, gray-haired widow who shared her house with her sister Fran, a journalist for the local newspaper. Dim-witted Vinton; Thelma's son, moved in with kids Buzz and Sonja after his wife Mitzi abandoned the family to become a Las Vegas Show Girl. The same year Vinton met trampy and flirty neighbor Naomi Oates and eloped. During these years Carol Burnett, Harvery Korman, and Betty White were supporting cast members. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled and two year's later resurfaced on CBS in syndication.

In the fall of 1986 Mama's Family returned to television with many changes. Rue McClanahan (Fran) and Betty White (Ellen) had pursued careers on NBC's new show The Golden Girls, and the cast was axed to only Mama Harper, Vinton, and Naomi. Two newcomers had joined the cast, Beverly Archer as Iola Boylen, the prissy next door neighbor and friend to Thelma, and Allan Kayser as Euince's delinquent son Bubba Higgens. Over the shows run, Mama's Family distinguished itself as a show for enjoyment. The ever revolving dysfunctional family plot-lines, strong cast, wacky costumes, and one-liner comedic insults helped made this show the #1 syndicated program in television for four consecutive years (1986-1990).

QUESTIONS CONCERNING SEASON TWO ON DVD!:
It has been over two years since Mama's Family: The Complete First Season was issued on DVD. Over a year ago we also held a official online petition that www.tvshowsondvd.com helped support and email to Warner Brothers. Initially after the first season release, many fans were outraged to find that the syndicated cuts were used. Warner Brother's, being aware of this, made a statement claiming that they did not own the rights to the uncut version of the show. After many discussions with John Hamilton, son of Producer Joe Hamilton Productions, we have learned that Warner Brothers does not indeed own the rights to the uncut version of the show. In 2007 Warner Brothers later stated that they would release more seasons of the show if fans were ok with the syndicated cuts, as they do not own the rights to the un-cut version. On September 16th, 2008, Warner Brothers have stated that Mama's Family is currently being 'evaluated.' Basically speaking this does not mean that they will never release it, such as the case with some television series in their library collection, nor does it give a definite yes to the following seasons on DVD. If you haven't already please sign the petition at our message boards!
